The Taste, The Golf and The Nectar

The golfer knows perfectly well: his pleasure comes not only from treading the fairways and making a few pars and birdies, but also from sharing his passion with friends over a drink and a good meal in the clubhouse.

Some golf courses have highlighted their quality of welcome and the excellence of their table and cellar. It is even said that some people go to these golf courses to satisfy their gastronomic expectations!

LeClub Golf and Golf Planète invite you today to (re)discover four of them whose table is worth the diversions. Nothing surprising: these golf courses are located in wine regions such as Alsace, Burgundy, Champagne and Bordeaux.

Kempferhof: a Von Hagge course, gourmet dining and luxury surroundings

Let’s start with the Golf du Kempferhof, a magnificent golf destination, as much for its course as for its excellent table known by all the gastronomes in Alsace.

Maxime Duvernet, communications manager, tells us about it:

The Kempferhof golf course is first and foremost a large international course…

Yes, it is. Created in 1990 by the renowned architect Robert Van Hagge, the Kempferhof golf course is a technical and varied course, between water obstacles and forests. Located on the banks of the Rhine, it has regained the lustre and quality that had placed it among the 10 most beautiful golf courses in France following its purchase in 2016 by the Bindschedler family, who have since maintained it throughout the year as a championship course. With major renovations to the hotel, the creation of a Spa, a major expansion project for the current course, a large practice area and an “Executive” course, the Kempferhof Golf Resort has the ambition to become a European reference by 2024!
Just a stone’s throw from Strasbourg, the vineyards and the border with Germany, the Kempferhof covers 85 hectares of unspoilt nature offering a peaceful setting for a stay in the heart of the Alsace region. The 18th century aristocratic residence now houses a boutique hotel with 16 superior rooms, combining both tradition and modernity.

Golf de Champagne: with the partnership of the great producers!

A Golf and Wine article could not but stop by the Champagne region! And so by the Champagne golf course created in 1987 by Jacques Piquer and designed by Jean-Claude Cornillot (Arras, Hardelot…). Still a family property, the golf course is now managed by the founder’s daughter, Camille, who talked to us about golf and champagne:

“Our golf course is set in 70 hectares of valleys and plains, meandered by streams and bordered by oak, ash and pine woods. As nature has offered us such a beautiful site, we have respected it so that the pleasure of the game is also a pleasure for the eyes. The course is technical, not very long with small greens, sometimes difficult to catch…
Conviviality is the key word of our club. We will welcome you with open arms and a glass of champagne in hand!

Of course, our relationship with Champagne wine is essential and strong. The biggest brands such as Moet et Chandon, Deutz, Roederer, Billecart Salmon (the world’s best rosé!…) and many others are our partners and organise their competitions here every year. But we will also soon sign an agreement with the Syndicat des Vignerons Indépendants to help small producers.

All his names can be found on the menu of our restaurant as well as at the award ceremony of our competitions!

As for our ProAm, always organized on the first Tuesday of July, it is supported by our local partners: Champagne Deutz, Champagne Roederer, Champagne Remy Collard, Champagne Charles Ellner, Champagne Vollereaux… Also worth mentioning are the specialities of the region: Les Moutardes Clovis from the Maison Charbonneau Brabant, the Pomme Rémoise and the Biscuiterie de Reims…

As for our table, it is known to be simple, traditional and copious! I invite you to come and taste our rabbit terrine, calf’s head gribiche or the entrecote with home-made chips! We open every day at noon for lunch and serve very late!… “.

What are the wines to discover around your golf course?

We have many domains to make discover to our travellers! Belonging to the Purple Perigord, there are many treasures to discover, notably the wines of Bergerac and its famous sweet wines such as Monbazillac or Saussignac. Our geographical position means that we border on the Gironde and its beautiful estates (30min from Saint-Emilion) and the Lot-Et-Garonne with the Duras vineyards. A wide range of choices in terms of wine tasting for the greatest pleasure of people discovering our domain.

What is the spirit of your menu and your restaurant?

We offer two gastronomic atmospheres:

The Bistrot des Vigiers, which underwent a facelift in 2020 with a warm, art deco look while preserving the architecture of the old wine storehouse, giving way to gourmet, traditional Périgord cuisine.

The Michelin-starred restaurant “Les Fresques” offers refined dishes and flavours based on local and seasonal products, all orchestrated by chef Didier Casaguana and his brigade!

What’s new in the leisure and spa offer?

Yes, since 2018 we have invested in a total renovation of our Spa to provide a complete and adapted offer to our customers. We now work with the French brand Sothys, which is renowned worldwide for its top-of-the-range products, which can be discovered through various treatments carried out in one of our three cabins. New facilities complete the offer: hydrotherapy pool, jacuzzi, sauna, hammam and indoor pool… A real moment of softness in a relaxing oasis.

At Golf des Vigiers, the art of living in the south-west takes on its full meaning.

Her favourite dish: Roast duck breast with raspberry and black pepper juice, a typical dish of the region that cannot be ignored!

Favourite wine: We are fortunate to have our own vineyard surrounding the estate. The dry white wine “Les Vigiers” made from Sauvignon & Semillon grapes is a real treat.
The golf competition organised on the theme of wine: The Trophée des Grands Crus Classés de Saint Emilion, a Pro Am which normally takes place every year in June. A competition which combines conviviality and discovery of our soil through exceptional wines and local dishes, the whole gathered during the gala dinner organized in a partner domain of the Grands Crus classés of Saint Emilion. A great moment where the Vigiers’ faithful meet every year!
