Act 3. L’Isle Adam, Crécy GC, Château de Cély, Marseille Borely, Toulouse Téoula

The golfer, whether amateur or professional, always likes to recognise the architect’s hand in designing the golf course on which he or she plays. It’s a bit like finding out which chef made the wonderful dish you’re enjoying in a quality restaurant. This third article on course design excellence takes you this week to L’Isle Adam, Crécy La Chapelle, Château de Cély, Marseille Borely and Toulouse Téoula.

L’Isle Adam : A forest trail by Ronald Fream

Ronald Fream is a world-renowned American architect who trained with Robert Trent Jones and designed the French courses at Disney, Dolce Fregate, Parc Robert Hersant and Arcangues.

The Isle Adam golf course, also designed by this American master, opened in 1995. On a hilly and wooded course, this par 72 of 6188 m offers panoramic views of the region and allows golfers to recharge their batteries in the countryside.

Ideally located in the heart of the Oise valley, 30 minutes from Paris, you will discover a magnificent course, integrated into a natural and classified forest environment.
The exceptional green setting and hundred-year-old trees make this 200-hectare estate an unmissable place in the Ile de France.

We were keen to remain faithful to the philosophy that guided the architect Ronald Fream when he designed the Golf de l’Isle Adam, according to which “a good course must allow every player to set a goal that he can achieve and must appeal to both the beginner and the best players”.
Since its opening, the course has quickly gained a good reputation, thanks to the frankness and the great variety of the design and environment of its holes, partly laid out in the forest and partly on a beautiful plateau: a magnificent synthesis of British and American trends.
With wide fairways with natural undulations and vast greens to tame, the Golf de l’Isle Adam is recognised as one of the most beautiful courses in the Ile de France region.

Crécy GC: the only Arnold Palmer course in France

The Vignoly course, the only course designed by the famous Arnold Palmer in France, offers a great golfing challenge. It is located in Crécy La Chapelle, only 35 kilometres from Paris and 15 kilometres from Disneyland.

Arnold Palmer, multiple winner of the Masters Golf, US Open and British Open and a key figure in the Augusta Masters, wanted to combine the pleasure of the eye and the game of golf in one place. The American style of the course, its wide fairways and water hazards make it interesting to play. Le Vignoly is a Par 74 created in 2006. With its 14 water hazards and 63 bunkers, it is a beautiful course to play and to contemplate.

A variety of tree species also add to the sumptuousness of the course.

The golf course benefits from a hotel site with 28 spacious, comfortable and warm suites, with refined decoration in the heart of an authentic 17th century farm.

The Crécy Golf Club draws its originality from this unique golf course in France but also from the presence on the same site of a wildlife park dedicated to the wild fauna of South America.

The price of the green fee is 55€ on weekdays and 80€ on weekends. Infos and reservation online  : click here

Château de Cely: a Marc Adam + Patrick Fromanger + Nicklaus Design tour around a 14th century castle

The golf course was designed in 1990 by Marc Adam and Patrick Fromanger in collaboration with Jack Nicklaus Design. Each hole offers an interesting perspective, a different point of view, allowing multiple approaches in the purest tradition of American golf.

The UGolf du Château de Cély hosted the Women’s World Championships when it was inaugurated and is one of the most beautiful golf courses in Ile-de-France.

The UGolf du Château de Cély covers a vast and magnificent 55-hectare park in Seine et Marne (77). Located 45 kilometres south of Paris, in the Fontainebleau region, it is ideally served by the A6 motorway and close to the airports (30 km from Orly and 80 km from Roissy). You will find on the estate the Château de Cély, dating from the 14th century.

Public rates from 83€ during the week and 98€ at the weekend. The UGolf du Château de Cély is a member of the LeClub Golf network.

In the heart of Marseille with a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean, the Frioul Islands, the Château d’If and the Good Mother, Jean Garaialde (with Jeremy Pern) has designed an urban course that is very popular with the inhabitants. This UGolf Marseille Borely is a 7.5 hectare golf course surrounded by the race tracks of the Borely racecourse.

With its 9 compact holes with a total length of 1,350 metres (PAR 28), 50 driving ranges and short game practice areas, this urban golf course meets the expectations of the most experienced golfers who wish to practice, as well as those of the most novice who want to discover this exceptional outdoor sport.
